Details of our proposed Community Farm
Community Farm
The field to the west of the Car Park was the last area of the Murton Wildlife Trust’s land to be quarried and has recently been restored. We are planning to create a small community farm on these 20 acres of land.
We believe the farm will provide the community with the opportunity to learn about and interact with all aspects of animal care and land management. It will also demonstrate good practice in the use and saving of natural resources.
We will have a selection of large animals such as cattle, sheep and pigs and some small areas for crop production. The smaller animals such as goats, ducks, chickens, geese, rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs will provide an opportunity for hands on interaction.
The farm will run with special emphasis being placed on children and young people and their education. It will provide an increased number of volunteering opportunities and land-based skills training.
We are currently trying to secure funding to set up the farm but still hope it can be opened in Spring 2008. Any donation large or small towards this project would be gratefully received!
